Red Plains Veterinary Emergency + Referral is growing under a new leadership team focused on clinical excellence, team development, and a strong, supportive culture. We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to support our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) departments in Oklahoma City.

As an Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Assistant, you will provide essential support to veterinarians and technicians in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. This role is ideal for individuals who remain calm under pressure, are detail-oriented, and are passionate about emergency veterinary medicine.

You will be an integral part of a team delivering advanced care to critically ill and injured patients.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient restraint, treatments, and diagnostics
• Support emergency and critical care patient flow during overnight shifts
• Prepare treatment areas, surgical suites, and diagnostic equipment
• Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in condition
• Collect and process laboratory samples
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment and ICU areas
• Provide compassionate support to clients and patients during emergency visits
• Assist with stocking supplies and maintaining hospital readiness

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

• Previous veterinary assistant experience required
• Emergency, ICU, or specialty experience strongly preferred
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency setting
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations
• Comfortable working overnight shifts and weekends
• Passion for emergency and critical care veterinary medicine
• Swing shift and weekend availability required

About Red Plains Veterinary Emergency + Referral

Red Plains Veterinary Emergency + Referral is a 14k square foot, hybrid/full-service small animal veterinary hospital, serving the Oklahoma City community. We have a collaborative team of DVMs, including multiple specialists (Surgery, ABVP), Rotating Small Animal Interns, and experienced knowledgeable support staff members. We have nine exam rooms, a double surgery suite, a full in-house lab, u/s, radiology, a fully staffed 24/7 ICU, and the only pet-specific Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber in Oklahoma.

Our goal is to provide the care and facilities necessary to make sure that the pets entrusted to us live long and healthy life, as pain-free and as comfortably as possible.
